Port Elizabeth Tourism and Accommodation: Visitor Information Centre

Eastern Cape > Eastern Cape >  Port Elizabeth Accommodation and Tourism
Port Elizabeth is also known as Nelson Mandela Bay, and often shortened to PE and nicknamed "The Friendly City" or "The Windy City". There are a number of wildlife reserves in the area around PE, as well as some beautiful parks, like St Georges Park.

Port Elizabeth is known as the "watersports capital of South Africa" and holds a large number of annual watersports events. The fair breezes are great conditions for sailing, kitesurfing and windsurfing, and the safe beaches allow for plenty of surfing, swimming, and body boarding. There are many museums in the city, as well as an aquarium with dolphins. There are also cruises offered from the harbour, including sunset cruises to view dolphins in the wild and whale watching tours. There are a few golf courses in Port Elizabeth - Humewood, for example, is regularly voted in the top five courses in South Africa and is our only genuine links course.

There is some excellent game viewing within an hour's drive of Port Elizabeth, like the Addo Elephant Park, which is dedicated to the preservation of the Eastern Cape Elephant and the Cape Buffalo.
